* Almost all commercially available hematite is a virtually identical manmade product with the same chemical composition as natural hematite. Natural hematite is very brittle and will often shatter when drilled or dropped. Natural hematite will leave a red streak if drawn across unglazed porcelain, manmade will leave a gray streak. Natural hematite cannot be magnetized.
